My Room Through The Ages

Phase 1: 2016-2017

Picture
The room on the left is from my Sophomore year of college (Enclave apartments). In it, I lived with Jessica my best friend, and Skyler! It was right next to their boyfriend's (who were also roomies) + located about 10 minutes from campus. It was a straight shot down one road to ASU, which was really nice as it really didn't take too long for us to get to class. I was also located about 4 minutes from a Sprouts which was amazing. It was living here that I gradually began to switch my diet from McDonalds (literally was a regular at the McDonalds around the corner from this place- I saw ALL the same employees) & Nestle cookies everyday to actually cooking for myself! This was a HUGE step in my healing journey.

Going into my actual room, I was really into the glam, silver & white look. Like myself, I was really into getting dolled up and my room reflected this. Looking back now, it does look and feel a bit too cool or cold, is not as cohesive as it could be, and lacks warmth & comfort! This is no surprise considering that this year was the year leading into my spiritual awakening. Like myself, it was about to gather a lot of DEPTH. It's interesting to look at and see how much I and even my room has changed throughout the years! This bedroom (like who I was LOL) was a great base to start from, however, as I do still have a lot of the pieces in this picture in my apartment even now in 2021!

Phase 2: 2017-2018

The next two photos are from my Junior year of college. During our lease at the Enclave, Skyler got engaged. So, when the lease ended she moved in with her fiancé while my previous roommate Jessica, our friend Petra & I moved into a newly built apartment! It is by far the most stunning apartment I have lived in so far. It was super close to campus still and the coffee shop that I worked at! Since it was a newly built apartment, rent was quite low since they were really just looking to get tenants in for the first year. We did not renew the next year since the price went up-and we were going our separate ways as roomies!

Style wise and in my own life, I went through massive soul shaking changes while living here.  I had my spiritual awakening and a dark night of the soul that lasted months (click here for a blog post detailing everything I was experiencing during this time). I was working 2 jobs- the coffee shop still & Casa Amigos as a hostess & bartender in training, on top of class work and an internship. Due to how busy I was, I did not prioritize cooking for myself and slipped back to eating out a lot. By October I was 90 lbs, using the restroom MULTIPLE times a day and was facing all the consequences of not mindfully connecting to or taking care of myself the past two years. Following my spiritual awakening my vibe/space definitely began to change and my room reflected that as well.  I started going for warmer colors. I think it honestly reflects a shift from wanting to be very glam to something more soft and welcoming. I absolutely loved the lights I added to my room and felt so much safe and cozier in my room. The window on the "left" was actually a faux glass window which led to the hallway.  Initially when we moved in here, I did want to keep the gray, cool tones theme going, I just made it a bit darker and warmer by adding a dark gray (see bottom left photo). I also did some DIY in this room  and started tapping into my creativity for the first time since I was little (whoo for inner child healing hehe)! I got the chandelier light canvas from Amazon and the background was originally black, but I painted it to make it ombre so that it would match my room! This was also the first place that I created an altar space, connecting to my guides, dancing for fun + connection + making spiritual soaks/baths (cause lord knows, I NEEDED it).

Phase 3: 2018-2020

I do not have photos of my space between Skysong (the apartment above) and the place I am living in now. I kept it pretty much the same as the photo on the right though. I just ordered vines + bought my first house plants to add more life and greenery to my space! :)

Phase 4: 2020-2021

This is my room currently! At this point I have lived in 4 apartments. I'm now 2 years out of college and the last couple years have been pivotal in who I am as a person. I met my twin flame, made and lost many friends, started working, graduated, had my spiritual awakening, and began teaching. Overall, I love coming home to the safe + sacred space I've created. I feel like it truly does reflect my being and who I am becoming. I don't really feel the need to change my room lately. If anything it's been rearranging and playing around with what I’ve already collected +  created. It's also nice because I have my altar that I change with the seasons which helps create space and movement in my room. I absolutely adore my space and really truly feel like it reflects me. My room like me, represents the calm comfort I find in who and where I am now. I'm so happy with what I've created for myself + through living in apartments I've definitely discovered I'll absolutely need natural light in my forever home! ♡♡♡
